I AM A MARXIST

i am a Marxixt and I have built

a sweet home with tatas who with

military forces destroyed adivasi

villages in Kalinganagar.

i am a Marxist and my home is built with bricks

made of blood red of tender limbs.

i am a Marxist and my children hate vernacular,

low lands and plains,  and dream of inhaling pure air

of Canada, Texas, Bristol, New York, Chicago.

i am a Marxist and I never raise my voice for the rights

of adivasis, muslims or other outcastes and I collect plods

to renew the old walls of status quo.

i am a Marxist and each way I seek

to climb to the mountain of the chosen few

riding safe ladders of caste and class.

i am a Marxist and my daughters celebrate birthdays

hopping malls, drinking at city’s happiest bar,

booking tickets to the moon.

i am a Marxist and I worship my household gods

and firmly pray for classless, casteless, genderless days.

i am a Marxist and I send my friends

to my astrologer friends to add gold to iron days.

i am a Marxist and I coolly sit on

shares I hold, and in evening rallies

i blare against inequality, injustice and class.

It's all about the unsung , nameless men and women around us. I try to portray them through my tales. I praise their undying suffering and immaculate beauty. And their resilience to life's vicissitudes, oddities, and crudities I admire. They are my soulmates who inspire me to look beyond the visible, the known, the common facade of the educated and the intellectuals.

Praise for my poem "Elderly Men Two"

"A finely honed observational piece recording the minutiae of everyday life. Rendered with the author’s customary poetic aplomb suffused with a Borges like quality of the mythic."
